The opening of a sleep lab at ETMC Crockett couples the expertise of the ETMC Neurological Institute with the convenience of receiving these important diagnostic tests close to home.

“Patients suffering from sleep disorders are referred to the ETMC Crockett sleep lab by their physician, or they can call the ETMC Neurodiagnostic Sleep Center and speak to a sleep technician who can initiate the referral process,” said Denice Walker, clinical director. “A sleep lab study involves an overnight stay in comfortable room, where the patient is monitored by a sleep technician, who uses equipment to record the patient’s brain waves, heart rate, snoring, respiration, leg muscle activity and oxygen saturation levels. When a sleep study is completed, the patient’s primary care physician is involved in discussing recommendations.”
Most sleep disorders can be treated or managed effectively once they are accurately diagnosed, Mrs. Walker noted.

Most insurance carriers offer insurance coverage for sleep disorder studies, although patients are advised further discuss coverage with their insurance carrier.
